We had a superb New Mexican breakfast with Leah and Wellington at the venerable Range Cafe, a fun spot near University Blvd.- heaping plates of carne adovada (chunks of well-flavored pork) and huevos rancheros (note to self: green chili…more than red) and a huge sticky pecan roll (the four of us shared, finishing only half.)
Later Dirck and I drove up to Sandia Crest, hoping to do a short hike but found ourselves back in Iowa, weather wise. There was over a foot of snow so no hiking (we were not dressed for that) but superb, dramatic views – of dark and fluffy white clouds over the mountains and the brilliant sunlit valley below. We returned to more pleasant temps (twenty degrees warmer by the time we drove down the mountain from Sandia Crest.)
